LGU Itogon is gearing up to celebrate the 49th Nutrition Month throughout the month of July 2023, with the theme “Healthy diet gawing affordable for all.”
The announcement was made by Municipal Rural Physician, Dr. Marie Jorelyn Bahingawan, on July 3, 2023.
Dr. Bahingawan highlighted that this year’s theme aims to emphasize the importance of food and nutrition security, particularly with regard to affordability. The goal is to ensure that everyone has the right to access safe and nutritious food, thereby eliminating hunger in the community.
In line with the celebration, a series of activities has been planned to promote nutrition awareness. The Buntis Pageant aims to raise awareness about the significance of a healthy pregnancy and proper nutrition for expectant mothers. Additionally, a Zumba competition will take place to encourage physical fitness and active lifestyles among community members.
Select students from various schools will participate in the draw-and-tell activity. Furthermore, there will be a search for the best-maintained barangay health station, recognizing the efforts of local communities in providing accessible and well-maintained health facilities for the residents.
A culminating activity for the month-long celebration, spearheaded by the Municipal Health Services Offices (MHSO), is scheduled for July 27, 2023.
