Binga, Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet–The Itogon History Committee convened at the Binga Indigenous People’s Cultural Heritage Site (BipCHS) Recreation Hall on February 20, 2025, to consolidate Itogon’s historical records into an official book.
The session, facilitated by Vice Chairman of the Committee, Norberto Pacio, was attended by representatives from the LGU-Itogon, barangay officials, and community leaders.
Mayor Bernard Waclin expressed his support and the need for thorough research, including interviews with elders, to preserve oral histories. The proposed book includes an introduction, historical periods, cultural and social life, a conclusion, and references. Additionally, the book will feature folklore and other historical records.
Internal Auditor and member of the Itogon History Committee Aloysius Kato emphasized the importance of barangay-level data collection and ensuring accuracy through cross-referencing sources. The committee agreed that this approach would be followed. Contributors will be acknowledged, and a traditional ritual will be conducted as part of the cultural process.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 25, 2025, to finalize details and conduct the ritual marking the beginning of the book.
