On September 1, 2023, LGU Itogon through the Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office led by Engr. Cyril Batcagan conducts the third annual Safety Olympics at the Fianza Memorial Gymnasium.
The Itogon Safety Olympics is where skills on Basic Life Support of Itogon Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils (BDRRMCs) are put to test.
Dr. Marie Jorelyn Bahingawan, the Itogon Rural Physician, emphasized the primary objective of the Safety Olympics, which is to enhance participants’ abilities in preserving lives by preventing further injuries. She also emphasized the importance of volunteerism.
BDRRMCs compete in a time-sensitive prosecution of various first aid procedures. They showcased their talents on Lifting and Moving, Bandaging, Splinting, CPR, Situational Analysis, and Knowledge on Itogon Hazard Map. Judges were the senior Itogon Responders and members of the Itogon MDRRM Councils.
Barangay Dalupirip’s BDRRMC secured the first-place, followed by Barangay Ucab in second place, and Ampucao in third place.
In Special Awards, Dalupirip bags the Best in Bandaging, Tinongdan in Transfer Relay and Situation Analysis, Ampucao in Splinting and CPR, and Ucab in Best in Hazard Map Making.
Mayor Bernard S. Waclin commended the MDRRMC and MHSO for their extensive efforts in organizing activities that help improve the skills of Itogon’s local responders. He also commended the winners for their dedication and passion in the life-saving mission.
