On April 1, 2025, Mayor Bernard S. Waclin and Vice Mayor Dante Allain Xavier D. Godio led the turnover and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly completed open gymnasium at Tabu Elementary School in Tabu, Dalupirip. The project was funded by the municipal LGU under the Special Education Fund (SEF).
Mayor Waclin reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education in Itogon by constructing open gymnasiums at schools. These facilities not only enhance students’ learning experiences but also serve as temporary shelters in emergencies and provide venues for community gatherings.
Under Mayor Waclin’s leadership, over twelve gymnasiums have been built in public schools, with only four remaining without such facilities. Plans and funding are already in place to address these remaining needs.
During the ceremony, Vice Mayor Godio shared that the request to rename Tabu Elementary School to Damaso Comiles Elementary School is currently in process.
Department of Education – Cordillera Regional Director Estela P. Leon-Cariño, represented by Senior Education Program Specialist Arvin M. Doman, also attended the ceremony. He commended the LGU for its continuous support of educational initiatives and congratulated the school community on the completion of the gymnasium.
Benguet Board Member Johannes A. Amuasen, Dalupirip Punong Barangay Paul M. Camantiles represented by Kag. Ambrosio Comiles, and Kag. Ricardo Sukaw were also present to witness the ceremony.
