The Itogon Women’s Sports League officially kicks off today, March 25, at the Fianza Memorial Gymnasium. The event, which is spearheaded by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), draws women from across the barangays of Itogon to participate in the annual celebration of sports and empowerment.
Grace Pocsol, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, welcomes the attendees with an inspiring message. She highlights that the league, held by Municipal Ordinance No. 008, S. 2019 or the “Itogon Women’s Sports League”, aims to encourage the active involvement of all sectors in the municipality through sports, fostering talent, and empowering women in the community.



Following the welcome, the women athletes take the Oath of Sportsmanship, led by Merle Palubos, President of the Federation of Itogon Women’s Association Inc. (FIWAI). Palubos underscores the event’s purpose of promoting camaraderie, trust, and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of building a strong and united foundation among the participants.
In his address, Municipal Mayor, Hon. Bernard Waclin stresses the significance of fairness in all aspects of the league, reinforcing the event’s core values.

The ceremony concludes with the symbolic ceremonial toss, led by Mayor Waclin and FIWAI officers, officially marking the opening of the sports league.
With the opening ceremonies completed, the competition for various allied sports begins immediately. The league will wrap up tomorrow, showcasing thrilling basketball and volleyball matches to conclude this exciting event.
