March 19, 2025 – In preparation for the May 12 National and Local Elections, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Itogon, the Itogon Municipal Police, local candidates, religious leaders, and government officials held a Unity Walk, Inter-Faith Rally, and Peace Covenant Signing in Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet.

The unity walk started at Itogon Central School and ended at Fianza Memorial Gymnasium, promoting a clean, dignified, and fair campaign.
The event began with a talk from the Itogon Interdenominational Ministers Association (IIMA), headed by Chairperson Rev. Joseph Agno. It was followed by a candle-lighting ceremony symbolizing the guiding light to lead the people. The candidates were reminded of the importance of a God-centered community, family preservation, communal advocacy, and a deep commitment to public service.
A Peace Covenant Signing followed, pledging to uphold fair elections. COMELEC Officer Reynaldo A. Oliva hoped that candidates would remain honest throughout their campaigns, stating, “Hopefully, they will be honest talaga sa kanilang campaign na walang vote-buying.”
During the program proper, Police Major (PMAJ) Mac Kenley A. Mayomis emphasized that while political candidates rarely cause issues, conflicts often arise among supporters. He assured the Philippine National Police (PNP) that Itogon would enforce election rules while respecting cultural norms.
COMELEC Officer Oliva also urged voters to be discerning in choosing their leaders, reminding them, “Ang mga botante natin ng Itogon should know the candidates para malaman nila kung sino ang iboboto nila [at] karapat-dapat… the [should] ask questions like ano ang mga plataporma nila [at] plans nila.”
He then briefed aspirants on responsible campaigning under the Fair Elections Act, reminding them of the official campaign period from March 28 to May 10, 2025. Meanwhile, Revenue Officer Richard L. Litorco, and Administrative Aide III Nikki Anne Pino from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) distributed application forms to the candidates.
The event concluded with photo opportunities, reinforcing unity and commitment to a peaceful election process in Itogon as the municipality continues to stand firm in its hymn:” Hand in hand we work for prosperity; marching forward in peace and unity.”
