Home. Nature. Story.
These three words grasp the essence of The King’s Cabin, a peaceful escape amidst the pinewood forests of Baguio Gold, Tuding, Itogon. For those looking for a cozy cabin and the soothing embrace of nature, this modern yet rustic solitude offers a relaxing sanctuary.
But there’s a story behind the cabin’s success. It all began from small beginnings, dedication, and a strong sense of community.
From Roots to Mountains of Dreams
The King’s Cabin is the idea of Dante C. Castro II and his life partner Sherilyn Castro. Dante’s path was not paved with gold. Life was challenging for them in the past, and his father worked as a jeepney driver. However, after his father extended a helping hand to a person with a disability (PWD), that act of kindness found its way back to them in an unexpected way. The PWD gave them the lot, which they later used to build The King’s Cabin.
For Dante, this home represents more than just a transient cabin for short-term accommodations. It symbolizes his family’s journey and the ideals they hold dear. “I owe our success to the idea of sharing,” according to him. He wanted to share his experience of living in nature so that others could enjoy the peace he lived there.
A Picturesque Getaway
The King’s Cabin is a private gated property that perfectly blends the comforts of home with the heights of nature. The cabin accommodates up to 21 guests and features a spectacular mountain view, a fully furnished kitchen, a CR with hot and cold shower, WiFi and smart TV, and free parking. Plans are already underway to provide lavish amenities such as a jacuzzi and sauna.
Beyond the cabin’s physical appeal, which is a mix of modern elegance and rustic charm, the atmosphere is what genuinely captivates visitors. “Peaceful” and “picturesque” are the words most frequently used by visitors, many of whom travel not just from Baguio but also from other provinces seeking a break from the city’s congestion.
What distinguishes The King’s Cabin is more than just its calm atmosphere. It is Dante’s solid commitment to the community. The neighbors, whom Dante described as “like family,” include small business operators. Dante has made it a personal goal to support the local economy. Guests are encouraged to purchase fresh produce, plants, and local specialties from nearby vendors. One can enjoy merienda at a neighbor’s small eatery or purchase vibrant house plants grown by local gardeners.
But First, Nature
But Dante’s vision extends beyond community and hospitality. He is an environmentalist who has firmly opposed waste disposal and commercialization. He actively leads efforts to halt illegal waste disposal in Beckel, La Trinidad, which threatens the river in Baguio Gold which is their precious water source.
Dante dreams of preserving the untouched beauty of the area. “We want to reserve this spot, to protect the mountains,” he shares, emphasizing that no further buildings will disrupt the pristine surroundings.
Vision from Horizon
Dante has higher expectations for The King’s Cabin, even if it currently provides a beautiful haven. The goal of the planned nature-based activities, which include classic mining tours, tomato-picking excursions, and riverside camping, is to give visitors a genuine flavor of Itogon life in addition to relaxation.
The King’s Cabin is a home of hope, not merely a place to go on vacation. It’s where guests integrate into the community, where modern architecture meets traditional charm, and where the unspoiled beauty of nature takes center stage.
Adding to its growing support, Mayor Bernard S. Waclin extends his full support to The King’s Cabin. He visited the property on March 12, 2025, a testament to the local government’s recognition of the cabin’s positive impact on both tourism and the community.
