To enhance disaster preparedness and response within the municipality, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) led by Engr. Cyril Batcagan spearheaded a comprehensive training session on June 14, 2023, at the Itogon Evacuation Center.
The training was attended by Mayor Bernard S. Waclin, Vice Mayor Dax D. Godio, members of the Sanggunian Bayan, barangay officials, department heads, and representatives from various local government agencies.
During the training, Benguet Provincial DRRMO Abner Lawangen discussed different types of hazards and their effects. Officers Jerwell Alones and Engr. Felipe Esnara from the LGU La Trinidad DRRMO explained the concept of risk assessment and the functions of an Incident Command System. Itogon MLGOO Julie Malig conveyed the essential roles of elected officials in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, while Municipal Health Officer Dr. Oliver Guadaña provided insights into the crucial role of health professionals during disasters.
Mayor Waclin expressed gratitude to the DRRM officers from the Provincial LGU Benguet and the LGU La Trinidad for sharing their expertise. He also commended the active participation of all the participants and the municipal councilors, led by Vice Mayor Godio. The mayor emphasized the importance of collective participation in disaster response and urged all attendees to contribute to the municipality’s preparedness efforts.
