Dalupirip, Itogon, Benguet—The Laurencio Fianza National High School gathered on March 11, 2025, for the official turnover ceremony of their newly constructed open gymnasium.
The 7.5 million peso project, funded under the Itogon municipal government’s priority initiatives, aims to enhance the school’s facilities, providing a space not only for school and community events but also as a shelter during emergencies.
A key moment of the event was the symbolic turnover of the key, representing the turnover of the gymnasium from the contractor, municipal engineer Engr. Michelle Busacay went to the municipal local government unit (LGU), then to the Department of Education (DepEd) Itogon, and finally to the school. School Head of Jaime B. Coligman, joined by Gumatdang Integrated School Jose Gaerlan along with Retired former School Head Virginia P. Fausto, a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) representative, and a Supreme Student Government (SSG) representative, officially received the key.
Municipal Mayor Hon. Bernard S. Waclin emphasized the broader purpose of the facility, stating, “Nu mabalbalin amin kuma nga eskwelaan maikargaan ti gym tapno mayat amin nga facilities tayo (If possible, I hope all schools can have a gym so that all our facilities will be better.)” He highlighted that the gymnasium’s completion is not solely the work of any politician but a blessing from God, urging the community to use it to inspire students in their studies and activities.
During Mayor Waclin’s tenure, over twelve gymnasiums were turned over to DepEd schools, with others still under construction. He mentioned that only four public schools remain without gymnasiums, which are already planned for funding and programming.
School Head Jaime B. Coligman expressed his gratitude, stating that having a gymnasium had long been a dream for their school. He emphasized that school activities can now proceed, rain or shine, and pledged to ensure the facility’s longevity.
Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) of Itogon I, Jonathan G. Sadey, delivered words of challenge, encouraging everyone to utilize the facility for academic and extracurricular programs.
The program commenced with a mass and blessing led by Rev. Father Dexter L. Martin, followed by the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony. Barangay Kagawad Ricardo Sukaw, representative of Dalupirip Punong Barangay Hon. Paul M. Camantiles, welcomed attendees with his opening remarks. Retired former School Head Virginia P. Fausto also delivered an inspirational talk.
The event concluded with an intermission number by the teachers, closing remarks from the PTA representative, and a Thanksgiving lunch accompanied by a photo session.
Laurencio Fianza National High School celebrates this new chapter, hopeful that the gymnasium will foster performance growth and community spirit.
