Itogon Police Chief Police Major Mac Kenley A. Mayomis has proposed the establishment of a Police Community Precinct (PCP) in Sitio Bacong, Barangay Loacan. The proposal was presented during the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) meeting held on June 9, 2025, at the Itogon Municipal Hall.
Currently, the PCP servicing Barangay Loacan is located in Tuding, with an average response time of 20 minutes, not accounting for traffic conditions in Pacdal, Baguio City. The proposed precinct in Sitio Bacong aims to reduce response time to approximately 3 to 5 minutes.
PMaj Mayomis explained that the establishment of a new PCP is being considered in response to the growing economic activity in Barangay Loacan. While the latest census records a resident population of 9,331, the floating population has surged to around 15,000, driven by increasing tourism and commercial development in the area.
Mayor Bernard S. Waclin is seeking support from private sector stakeholders in Loacan to assist with the setup of the proposed police precinct.
Municipal Administrator Arnel F. Bahingawan, on behalf of MPOC Chairman Mayor Waclin, expressed the council’s support for the initiative. The MPOC has agreed to draft a resolution endorsing the proposal for ratification, to be addressed to Benguet Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Joseph P. Bayongasan.
Police Major Mayomis is hopeful that the new Loacan PCP will be operational by the end of June 2025.
