September 29, 2026 — What began as a passion for crochet has grown into a world-record achievement, with Adelaida Guia’s Wishing Star, officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest crochet mandala, now finding a permanent home at Mt. Camisong Forest Park in Loacan, Itogon.
Guia led the unveiling of the 28.03-square-meter mandala at the Tagitab Amphitheater on Saturday, September 26, marking a new chapter in the journey of the artwork, which was officially validated by Guinness World Records on January 22, 2026.
The unveiling celebrated not only the record but also the determination and collaboration behind a project that took years to realize. For Guia, who modestly described herself as someone who was simply good at crocheting, the achievement was the result of persistence, support, and a willingness to pursue an ambitious idea despite unexpected challenges.
Her journey toward the world record was not without setbacks.
After two attempts to complete the project, she found the support she needed through the University of the Philippines Baguio, particularly its Social Innovation Laboratory and Business Inclusion Technology Business Incubator (SILBI-TBI), which assisted her in July 2024.
However, in August of the same year, Guia suffered a stroke. Despite the setback, she remained determined to pursue her goal, continuing her efforts toward completing the mandala and securing its recognition.
Her achievement was made possible through the support of individuals and organizations who contributed to bringing the project to fruition. Guia acknowledged SILBI-TBI, the Abiakak family business, Francis Bautista of Manna Wellness, her husband, Philip Guia, and her daughter, Danielli Guia, for their contributions throughout her journey.
The mandala’s new home at Mt. Camisong also gives the achievement a lasting place in Itogon. Mt. Camisong President Oliver Samala expressed his gratitude to Guia for entrusting the forest park with the permanent display of the record-breaking artwork, allowing visitors to appreciate the piece and the story behind it.
Present during the unveiling were Mt. Camisong Chairperson Ludette Querubin, Department of Tourism–Cordillera Administrative Region Regional Director Jovi Ganongan, Baguio City Councilor Betty Tabanda, and Municipality of Itogon representative Tayubo Palangdan.
