September 4, 2026 — The Municipality of Itogon, led by Mayor Bernard S. Waclin, joins the nation and the global community in observing Suicide Prevention Month this September.
This year’s observance carries the global theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” with the call to action, “Start the Conversation,” emphasizing the importance of open and compassionate conversations in breaking the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health struggles.
In support of mental health promotion and suicide prevention, the Itogon Municipal Health Services Office (MHSO), in coordination with the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) Cordillera Chapter, regularly conducts kamustahan meetings with the Itogon Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Core Group.
The MHPSS Core Group is a multi-sectoral body composed of various government offices, organizations, and stakeholders working together to promote mental health awareness, strengthen psychosocial support services, and help build a more responsive support system for individuals and communities experiencing mental health concerns.
Mayor Waclin encourages everyone to show their support by wearing yellow on September 10, in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day. The color yellow symbolizes the light of a candle flame and represents hope, remembrance, and solidarity with those affected by suicide.
Spread hope and help change the narrative. Wear yellow, take a photo, and share it on social media. Don’t forget to tag us as we stand together in promoting hope, compassion, and mental health awareness.
