August 4, 2026 — The Local Government Unit of Itogon, through the Municipal Health Services Office (MHSO), conducted its Semi-Annual Nutrition Implementation Review on July 31, 2026, at the Itogon Training Center (ITC) in Bua, Tuding.
Barangay LGUs presented their nutrition accomplishments and initiatives covering the period from January to July 2026.
The review highlighted community-based programs aimed at improving maternal and child nutrition, including growth monitoring of children, nutrition services for pregnant women, monitoring and management of malnutrition cases, Vitamin A supplementation, backyard and community gardening initiatives, and other nutrition-related interventions implemented at the barangay level over the past six months.
The activity also served as a venue for the Barangay Nutrition Councils (BNCs) to share innovative practices and successful strategies that have contributed to improving nutrition outcomes in their respective communities.
Barangay Virac showcased two local ordinances promoting maternal and child health through incentive-based programs. The Batang Malusog Health Incentive Ordinance encourages parents to complete the required immunization and regular health monitoring of children below four years old, while the Healthy Baby Incentive Program Ordinance recognizes and supports pregnant women who comply with the Department of Health’s First 1,000 Days program—a critical period from pregnancy until a child’s second birthday that significantly influences lifelong growth and development.
Both ordinances provide qualified beneficiaries with health assistance packages that include vitamins, hygiene kits, and nutritious food packs, reinforcing the barangay’s commitment to improving maternal and child nutrition.
Meanwhile, Barangay Ampucao highlighted its WOW (Water Source Geotagging, Ocular Inspection, Water Source Sampling, and Water Source Clean-up) project, an initiative that strengthens access to safe and clean water through regular monitoring, assessment, and maintenance of community water sources. The project underscores the vital role of safe water in preventing diseases and supporting good nutrition among residents.
Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Marie Jorelyn P. Bahingawan and Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator Ms. Justene J. Aquisio commended the dedication of the Barangay Nutrition Councils in implementing nutrition programs despite various challenges. They encouraged the barangays to continue strengthening their nutrition interventions and sustain best practices.
