August 13, 2026 — The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) reported that 27 families or 107 individuals were displaced due to the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, which was intensified by the landfall of Tropical Depression Luis on August 3 and Tropical Storm Maymay on August 6.
The MSWDO also reported one totally damaged house in Poblacion and 13 partially damaged houses across the municipality, primarily due to landslides and fallen trees.
Social Welfare Officer Ester Alfredo said all displaced families, including those who evacuated from high-risk areas, sought temporary shelter with relatives. Barangay local government units (BLGUs) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) provided family food packs and other assistance to evacuees and continue to monitor their condition.
Local DRRM Officer Lincoln Ponasi reported several roads rendered impassable due to landslides, including the municipal road in Sitio Lumbag and Samuyao Road in Ampucao, as well as the Baguio-Itogon Road in Goldfield, Poblacion.
Intermittent road closures were also reported along Carantes Road in Poblacion due to landslides, and along the Antamok-Luneta Road in Loacan due to fluctuating water levels of the Antamok River.
MDRRMC Chairman Mayor Bernard S. Waclin reiterated that the suspension of small-scale mining and tourism activities remains in effect amid the continuing effects of the southwest monsoon.
The Mayor also expressed his appreciation to all disaster responders for their continued service during the inclement weather, including the Barangay DRRMCs, municipal departments, Itogon Fire Station, Itogon Municipal Police Station, volunteers, and partners from the private sector.
