July 2, 2026 — The collective commitment of the Municipal Government of Itogon and its residents to responsible residual waste disposal has earned regional recognition from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau Cordillera Administrative Region (DENR-EMB-CAR).
LGU Itogon, led by Mayor Bernard S. Waclin, received a Certificate of Recognition for its proper hauling and disposal of residual waste during the 9th Cordillera Environment Summit held Tuesday in Baguio City.
The award forms part of the DENR-EMB’s BADANG Awards (Adherence to Discipline for Advancing National Green Governance), which recognizes local government units that uphold environmental protection and ecological solid waste management.
Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Head Gerard S. Cornel accepted the recognition from EMB-CAR OIC Regional Director Engr. Jean C. Borromeo.
Cornel recognizes residents who continue to support and practice proper waste disposal in their homes and communities.
In a Facebook post, he expressed his gratitude, saying, “Congratulations, kakailian, for making ‘trash into golden treasure.’ Congratulations, and enjoining more dedication to proper waste management for a better, healthy, and environmentally sound Itogon.”
The recognition underscores the importance of sustained collaboration between the local government and the community in protecting the environment, demonstrating that meaningful environmental stewardship is achieved through the shared efforts of both public servants and residents.
