May 26, 2026 – BS Psychology students of Benguet State University, Erica Calde, Yanie Mayrene Gumihid, Dan Rey Lacafon, and Aleya Pa-at, formally turned over their study titled “A Qualitative Study on the Experiences of Carers in Itogon Caring for Relatives with Neurodevelopmental Conditions” to the Municipal Government of Itogon, represented by Municipal Administrator Arnel F. Bahingawan.
The study focused on the experiences of carers of relatives with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
The study explored the carer’s challenges, sacrifices, resilience, and long-term commitment caring for relatives with the medical condition. Findings emphasized the importance of stronger community support systems, mental health services, caregiver trainings and seminars, and inclusive policies to help ease the emotional, social, and financial burden faced by carers.
The research is expected to help guide the municipality in developing programs and policies that support carers and their families in Itogon.
