The Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (MAFC) of Itogon underwent a field validation on May 4, 2026, as part of the evaluation process for the 2026 Gawad Saka. The activity was conducted by the National Technical Committee (NTC), which is composed of representatives from the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF), the Department of Agriculture-Field Operations Service (DA-FOS), and the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP).
The validation focused on assessing the council’s performance, organizational management, and the impact of its initiatives on the local agricultural community. During the visit, the national validators reviewed the MAFC’s accomplishments in policy advocacy and its effectiveness in bridging the gap between the government and grassroots food producers.
This evaluation is a critical step in the Gawad Saka search, which remains the country’s most prestigious award for outstanding achievers in agriculture and fisheries. The presence of the NTC underscores the importance of municipal-level councils in driving sustainable development and ensuring that local agricultural voices are integrated into the national development framework.
