The Municipal Government of Itogon, led by Mayor Bernard S. Waclin, conducted its second official records disposal on Monday, March 19, 2026.
Records from the Sangguniang Bayan Office—including correspondence, committee meeting drafts, and logbooks dating back to 1988—as well as financial vouchers from the Municipal Accounting Office dated 2011 and earlier, were disposed of through landfill at a designated government area in Ayusip, Poblacion, Itogon.
The activity was led by Itogon Records Officer Romie Rose Holman, in the presence of State Auditor Gaspar Otgalon Jr. of the Commission on Audit (COA) and Records Management Analyst Gerald De Guzman of the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP).
Holman shared that the municipality’s first NAP-approved records disposal was in April 2024. She also noted that LGU Itogon was the first among the 12 municipalities in Benguet to achieve full compliance with records disposal requirements under Republic Act 9470, or the National Archives of the Philippines Act of 2007.
The NAP Act mandates government agencies to systematically, legally, and securely dispose of valueless records to free up storage space and resources, while ensuring the preservation of documents with legal, fiscal, or historical significance.
The disposal process was supported by the Itogon Fire Station, which assisted in hosing the documents with water prior to burying, as prescribed by NAP guidelines, to ensure proper destruction and safeguard sensitive information.
