Student-Developed Jeep Hailing App Turned Over to LGU Itogon

PIO ITOGON February 25, 2026

Fourth Year Computer Science students from University of Baguio formally turned over their project proposal titled “Design and Development of Jeeplink: A Web and Mobile-based System for Jeepney Operations in Itogon, Benguet” at the Mayor’s Office.

The proposal was presented to Municipal Mayor Bernard S. Waclin joined by the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator, Engr. Imelda F. Nuguid, and Planning Officer James D. Kidange, and Computer Programmer Dennis A. Tampoa.

Developed by students Denise Kay Bayawa, Aira Carillo, Shane Robiego, and Jan Vincent Llave, the project introduces a technology-based system designed to help address long waiting times and transportation issues experienced by commuters, especially in Itogon.

Jeeplink is a digital platform that helps improve communication and coordination among jeepney drivers, dispatchers, associations, and commuters. Its features include seat reservation, cash or GCash payment options, monitoring of passengers and routes, petitions for extra or extended trips, driver trip schedules, and text message alerts for road conditions during emergencies such as landslides. The system also includes safety measures such as account validation, ID checking, and a separate registration process for minors.

The students shared that the idea was inspired by their personal experiences and interviews with commuters who often wait 30 minutes to one hour for a jeepney, especially during peak hours and last trips. Through Jeeplink, the proponents aim to make commuting easier, more organized, and more reliable.

Tampoa expressed his appreciation for the project, stating that the system can help the community. He added, “Although may additional na trabaho para sa drivers, pero kung gusto nilang i-modernize ang system, kailangan talaga itong gamitin.”

This project highlights the strong partnership between the academe and the local government, and shows how student-led initiatives can help provide practical solutions to local transportation problems.
